LASA and SIWPS present: "Haiti: Post-Earthquake Challenges and Achievements" with Jessica Faieta Deputy Regional Director Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean United Nations Development Programme and SIPA Alumna Monday, April 1, 2013 12:15pm - 2:00pm International Affairs Building 13th Floor, Room 1302 Abstract: Ms. Faieta will discuss her time as Senior Country Director with UNDP-Haiti, focusing on the challenges and achievements in that country after the devastating 2010 earthquake.
Jessica Faieta is the Deputy Regional Director of the UNDP's Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean. Previously, Faieta was Senior County Director of UNDP Haiti where she led the recovery and reconstruction efforts of Haiti after the devastating earthquake of 2010 to facilitate the return of some 1.3 million displaced Haitians. Prior to her assignment in Haiti, Faieta was the United Nations Resident Coordinator in El Salvador and Belize leading the UN as a key partner in helping consolidate democracy, development, and climate change initiatives, and coordinate disaster response. Previously, Faieta was the Chief of Staff to former UN Deputy Secretary-General Mark Malloch Brown in the Executive Office of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, focusing on Iraq reconstruction, UN reform, and the Millennium Development Goals. She has worked for the UN since 1991, including in Cuba, Panama, and Argentina during critical periods for these countries: in Cuba, as it opened up to foreign investment; in Panama, during the transfer of the Panama Canal from U.S. to Panamanian hands; and in Argentina, during the political and economic crisis of 2001.
