Once again, the Columbia Club of Northern Jersey is gathering members for an evening at the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival Theater on the campus of Drew University in Madison. This year's offering will be Tennessee William's award winning play, A Streetcar Named Desire, on Saturday evening, September 27 at 8:00 p.m.

STEL-LAHHH!... howls Stanley Kowalski from a steamy street in New Orleans. Williams's magnificent play of sensuality and fragility, cruelty and broken souls, has given the world the immortal Blanche du Bois, played here by the dazzling Laila Robins.

Ms. Robbins received her MFA from the Yale School of Drama and has had a long career both on and off Broadway. In 1997 she starred in the Fiftieth Anniversary production of A Streetcar Named Desire at the Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago. In assessing her stage work as Ariadne in George Bernard Shaw's Heartbreak House (2006), New York Times theater critic Charles Isherwood wrote, Ms. Robins locates the essence of her character's shallow allure in a languid, liquid strut and a smile both entrancing and devouring".

We have a block of $53 Orchestra seats reserved for a $39 discounted price. In the event the evening is oversold, we will honor requests first from those who have paid their club dues. As in the past, we suggest you consider having a pre-theater dinner at any of the many fine restaurants in Madison. We will provide a list of Madison restaurants when we mail your tickets.
