The 2008 Election: A Political Scientist’s Perspective

The Columbia University Alumni Club of Tampa Bay is pleased to welcome Professor Robert S. Erikson, professor of Political Science at Columbia University, as he provides insights on the 2008 Presidential Election. Professor Erikson received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. His major interests include the study of electoral politics, public opinion, and policy representation in the United States.

Professor Robert S. Erikson is the coauthor of The Macro Polity (2002), American Public Opinion, (6th ed., 2001) and Statehouse Democracy (1993). He is also coauthor of several other books and has published numerous articles in major academic journals, including the recent “Are Political Markets Really Superior to Polls as Election Predictors?” that appeared in Public Opinion Quarterly. He has been editor of Political Analysis and American Journal of Political Science, and is a member of the editorial boards of Public Opinion Quarterly and State Politics and Policy. In 1996 he was the Co-Recipient of the Heinz Eulau award for best article in American Political Science Review.
