Abstract:
This talk presents the monthly seasonal climatology and interannual and longer (subseasonal) variability of global ocean mixed layer parameters monthly including mixed layer depth, temperature, barrier layer and compensated layer width. The analysis is based on observed vertical profiles of temperature and salinity from the World Ocean Atlas 2005 and recent Argo profiles (1960-2007) and is explored for evidence of subseasonal variability and its causes. The analysis reveals substantial variability in the winter-spring mixed layers in the
subtropics and midlatitudes.
