As
an international student, you may wonder how American business culture is
different/similar from your own especially if you are preparing to start
an internship over the summer or anticipating to work as a professional in the
near future. International students are invited to a career workshop addressing
the transitional issues from school to work place followed by the ISSO
presentation on immigration issues.
The first part of the career workshop will address the following:
I.
American Culture - Key Concepts and Values
II.
American Business Culture - Comparing Ideas and Values
III.
American Business
- Structure - Business Practice - Working Relationships - US Business Etiquette(Dos and
Don'ts) - Business Communications (Netiquette)
III. Your First 90 Days - What To Expect & How To Prepare
The
second part of the workshop will be on the F-1 Post-Completion Practical
Training; a staff member from ISSO will provide information for students
completing their programs at the end of the fall or spring semester who are
interested in staying in the U.S. to work for a while. You may want to apply
for F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT), a benefit and extension of F-1
status. OPT is work authorization in your field of study and requires an
application to, and authorization from, the US Citizenship and Immigration
Service (USCIS). The application to USCIS can take from six weeks to three
months or more to be processed. Come to an information session to have your
questions answered about OPT.
