International students are invited to this introductory career workshop on job-search skills and an information session about F-1 Post-Completion Practical Training.
For the first hour: A staff member of the Center for Career Education (CCE) will provide an a general overview of different aspects of the job-search for the international student population. We will go through challenges that may arise for international students as well as business etiquette. Although all international students may avail themselves of this workshop, note that on an ongoing basis the CCE serves students and alumni of Columbia College, SEAS, School of General Studies, GSAS, Graduate School of Architecture, Preservation & Planning, and the School of the Arts.
Information Session: F-1 Post-Completion Practical Training
During the second hour, a staff member from ISSO will provide information for students completing their programs at the end of the fall or spring semester who are interested in staying in the U.S. to work for a while. You may want to apply for F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT), a benefit and extension of F-1 status. OPT is work authorization in your field of study and requires an application to, and authorization from, the US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS). The application to USCIS can take from six weeks to three months or more to be processed. Come to an information session to have your questions answered about OPT.
