DESCRIPTION:\n\nThe Earth Institute\, Collumbia College and the School of Gen
 eral Studies are pleased to present the final briefings for the Capstone Wo
 rkshop in Sustainable Development (SDEV W3280). Come learn about the divers
 e client-based projects and research sustainable development students condu
 cted abroad this semester.  Students will present their work with the follo
 wing clients and projects\:  NYC Department of Parks & Recreation\; and Roc
 kland County Legislature Environmental Committee.\n\nClient\: NYC Departmen
 t of Parks & Recreation\n\nThe NYC Department has created a new program\, “
 Natural Area Volunteers\,” that recruits volunteers to engage in ecological
  conservation and restoration work in city parklands. Seeking to evaluate t
 he program in recruiting\, training\, and providing a satisfactory experien
 ce for volunteers\, the Department of Parks and Recreation is asking studen
 t teams to provide a report identifying program successes and improvements
  in these areas. This project will require a variety of investigations\, inc
 luding visits to parks throughout the five boroughs of New York City\, inte
 rviews with staff and volunteers\, assessment of program practices\, and a
  demographic study of new communities for further recruitment.\n\nClient\: R
 ockland County Legislature Environmental Committee\n\nThe second project bu
 ilds upon research conducted in the spring 2012 semester\, and will have st
 udents working with the Rockland County Legislature Environmental Committee
  on a series of intensive case studies of jurisdictions that have already e
 nacted water conservation ordinances.  The case studies will enable the com
 mittee to better understand the kinds of regulations that have been adopted
  in other jurisdictions\, including the reasoning behind the ordinances\, t
 he operational and financial details of implementation\, and the results ac
 hieved through ordinances.\n\nOpen to the public.\n\nRSVP is required for t
