Nanoscale couplings across

transition metal oxide interfaces

The recent ability to fabricate high-quality transition metal oxide
films on various substrates has resulted in coherent and atomically abrupt oxide interfaces.

Key question: Do novel materials properties emerge at the nanoscale interface itself?

Using first princples theory, I present two examples:

(1) How designing the static interfacial structure can achieve a functioning semicondutor/ferroelectric interface.
(2) How atomic vibrations dynamically go from one side of an oxide/oxide interface to modulate conductivity on the other side.
